Here’s the thing about voter ID in the US: We could just take your picture when you check in. 1. the government already knows what you look like (sorry) 2. Nobody would need an ID card 3. It would also help solve the larger problem of pollworkers checking in the wrong person.

They're still pointlessly concerned with the ID-at-the-voting-booth issue, but allowing it to be proven with a bank card gets rid of problems in the vast majority of cases.

In China and Japan, they use personalized stamps instead of signatures. I've been a pollworker, and in my state, we only need to make sure a single letter of a signature matches the records, because it's very common for a person's penmanship to become less legible with age.
