As the Forever DM of my classmates' gaming circle back in 1984ish, one of my more popular NPC arcs had an orc transcend his "always chaotic evil" roots to become a paladin. We all still had a lot to learn about distinguishing personhood from identity but what we're calling "woke" now ... nothing new

I also got really into Katherine Kerr's massive Deverry series in my teens.
It starts off as a bit of a female main character LOTR but takes all kinds of deviations and has lots of talkative dragons as you go along.
Also, what about some William Gibson? the Peripheral and Agency are both so good.

i interpreted the Galadriel and Fëanor stuff as being very creepy. Like girl told him no and he still insists on trying. Like how does that not come off as not being creepy behavior?
