At #IDweek in a diarrhea outbreak session; yeah, this was a bad cyclospora year 😳😳😳
Graph of lab confirmed cyclospora testing over a decade; most years 2-3000; this year 20,000. Multiple times that number not tested

Texas sure can be the Strangest State! Let our pal Molly take you on a tour of some recent, unusual headlines ... Read more from Strangest State: www.texasobserver.org/top….
Molly's blonde hair is gently windswept as she leans out the window of a red pickup in a blue buttondown. She says, "Howdy, y'all! Molly Ivins here. Texas sure can be the Strangest State. Let's see what happened since our last issue. (A man flies from a police car on the highway). "A handcuffed man managed to swipe a Dallas squad car, with one officer still riding in the back. But he botched the getaway by leaping onto I-35 and was rearrested. (A mountain lion lays peacefully in its coffin at a human-style funeral, complete with flowers and hunter speaking.) Texas has the laxest rules for hunting mountain lions of the 15 states with breeding populations. No one even knows how many live here. So the state is now counting dead ones, requiring hunters to submit teeth. (A red, smiling one-eyed virus creature lays with a cocktail on a bed of lettuce.) Call it Hot Parasite Summer. The screwworm fly is afflicting Texas livestock. While humans have been spared, at least 15 counties have been hit by another parasite, Cyclospora, which causes an exploside need to, well, use a restroom. (A man in a suit, tophat and tails with a "no tech" protest sign.) When Bandera voted to kill a contract for Flock license plate cameras, a dissenting city council member wrote the local paper to exaggeratedly propose banning all technology. "We are going back to the 1880," he wrote. (Back to Molly's truck.) Well folks, that's some strange news isn't it? If you see something happening around town, give us a shout!
