I just got a text from Sakuma-san for some reason, so I’ve gotta go back to school. He sucks so bad at using the kanji conversion that his texts look like cryptograms. “i gave two talk to you about d3adpan”...?

Have you ever been at a friend’s place and they spend hours preparing you a meal and when you’re both at the dinner table your friend pulls the lid off the tray and you cringe as you see a manual for kanji and you akwardly have to tell them you can’t eat it cause you’re alphabetic?

It feels like I am refining data Substance-style in the (100% optional/not optimal time-wise)l kanji minigame because I got a degree in Japanese but that was almost 30 years ago so I roll with subterranean feelings about the kanji sometimes and ~70% of the time it works out

The big pain is kanji. The two phonetic alphabets only have 2–3 exceptions. Kanji are the bulk of the reading difficulty, but they do make skimming tremendously easier once mastered. There are rules to kanji that everybody learns but readings aren’t 1:1 and the rules have a 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘵 of exceptions!

Trying to dump the script like I did years ago. The way the katakana and kanji are encoded is… weird. There seem to exist different encodings for each chapter and the footnotes for each chapter. If my calculations hold, I’d have to make 97 distinct table files.
Most games require one.

Furthermore: who says all of the male characters should even be dateable? naoki is grieving. kanji might too fixated on naoto. kou and daisuke are giving each other handies in the locker room. MAYBE NOT EVERYONE WOULD BE TRIPPING OVER THEIR FEET TO DATE THE PROTAG??? I hate ATLUS sometimes bro

- and compare them to other translations. on TOP of that, i had tadakane-san proof read it and she had me fix the things that machine translate simply could not understand or parse properly. it was a work of love and collaboration and a way for me to work on learning japanese
