Whether the extrapolation works or not? Who knows. By their own description, it sounds like they are simply massively p-hacking for accuracy on their own test set, which is a bonkers methodology that will definitely lead to false positives and false negatives

I'm now at work on another paper on the Neo-Kantian background to Henry Margenau's philosophy of science, and how it is indebted to Cassirer's and the neo-Kantians' approach to causation in quantum mechanics. Watch the space! #philsci #hps #sts #metascience #histsci #philsky

I was doing publication bias tests (do smaller studies have larger effect sizes, basically), and changing effect size measure has sometimes changed the direction of the "bias" altogether 🤦

The removal of "social science" from "science" seems like it's intensified post-"replication crisis" bullshit. There's always been a tension there, but now there's like an active effort to make it a "humanities" for disparagement purposes (among the groups that that's actually disparagement).

This is a very general statement. As someone in an empirical field that has gone through a "replication crisis," there are many steps and methods researchers go through to ensure their data is reliable. This is part of standard training in any decent research program

I think anyone evaluating the evidential value from studies that are plausibly described as AI hype (positive or negative) would do well to read Yarkoni 2020, "The generalizability crisis" doi.org/10.1017/S014...
