I had an absolutely fantastic time talking about colliding exoplanets as part of Pints of Knowledge at Big Penny Social in Walthamstow, and spent over half an hour answering many excellent questions from the audience! #exoplanets #astrodon #outreach
An image of the Extremely Large Telescope shrouded in mist with a rising sun is projected on a large screen, with me in a blue and white checked shirt standing in front of it with me waving my arms around excitedly and talking to the audience.
View from the stage with a fingerprint smudged laptop screen (not my laptop!) with “Pints of Knowledge” logo on it, and in the background several beer tables with people around them, looking at the compare talking off picture left. A large black stage curtain is at the back of the space.

BOWIE+ Seminar Series @bowieseminar.bsky.social · 4 days ago
Our next ECR highlight session will be on October 22nd. Join us for talks on interior modelling of exoplanets and the variability of brown dwarfs and exoplanets. To receive the Zoom link, sign up to the mailing list on our website. #exoplanets bowiecollaboration.github…
A poster advertising two online talks as a part of the BOWIE+ Seminar Series. A grey banner along the bottom identifies the seminar series and the date and time (22 October, 2026 at 16h British Summer Time). In the bottom right, there is the logo of the BOWIE+ collaboration, a gold hexagon, evoking a JWST mirror, with a transit curve and red lightning bolt on top. Above, there are two rows indicating the speakers. In the top row, there is a picture of Harrison Nicholls with the title of his talk ("Enabling the full potential of PLATO and JWST by modelling exoplanets’ interior-atmosphere states across deep time"). In the second row, there is a picture of Beatriz Campos Estrada with the title of her talk ("Exploring the limits of atmospheric retrievals in the JWST era: lessons from variable substellar atmospheres") to the right.

Interesting new project in citizen science, from the CHEOPS space telescope. I'm involved there as a volunteer. There are, also, further interesting variable sources, around targets preselected for potential new exoplanets. www.zooniverse.org/projec…. #exoplanets #variablestars #stellarastro

I provided some comments in this news article about an #exoplanet candidate discovery from someone using AI who posted the finding to social media. tl;dr: This is a planet candidate. Confirmation requires follow-up, which, for now, still needs humans. 🔭 gizmodo.com/did-claude-h...

Did Claude Help an Amateur Astronomer Discover a New Planet?

Billions of exoplanets are believed to be out there awaiting discovery. AI—with its ability to sift through mountains of data—could speed that process along.

I remain not a fan of the practices behind LLMs, and skeptical about a lot of their publicity, but it's really undeniable that they can help someone that knows the concepts and is grounded in their questions to push further that what they could otherwise do #exoplanets #astronomy
