A spatial map of the atmospheric limb of a hot Jupiter
Nature Astronomy, Published online: 14 October 2026; doi:10.1038/s41550-026-02986-4A new method of extracting atmospheric variations around the limb of a hot Jupiter using transmission mapping of JWST data finds a transition between the equator and pole of WASP-17 b. The authors measure a 650 K temperature difference between the morning and evening and find H2O and CO2 limb abundances consistent with circulation models.
