The #wildflower season is kicking off in Michigan with the first blooms of Harbinger of Spring, one of the woodland ephemerals. I snapped this Sunday at Miller Woods, a 10-acre patch of old growth forest in Plymouth Michigan open to the public. #wildflowerhour
I also found a little Ground Ivy plant this week, with flowers almost as large as the leaves! #WildflowerHour Apparently Ground Ivy has been used in beers and teas in the past #StoryPlants
Early Dog-violet, Viola reichenbachiana. I read the godess Diana turned some nymphs into violets to protect thier virtue when they were persued by Apollo. There was no mention of whether she ever turned them back again. #storyplants#wildflowerhour
Masses of Sweet Violet (Viola odorata var. dumetorum) in flower at Mereside, Shrewsbury, during yesterday's WeBS count with @janettem34.bsky.social . Saw the regular var. odorata near here in flower on 1 Jan. Are these usually later, I wonder? 14 Shoveler remaining the best. #wildflowerhour
