Male sparrowhawk mantling its food in #DappledLight, Alan's alternate theme for #BirdOfTheDay. Male sparrowhawks' eyes turn from yellow to a deep orange-red as they get older, though this can be as soon as two or three years. 馃搷 Scotland #UKwildlife #birds
A male sparrowhawk perched on a mossy stump, mantling its food, which is out of sight on the stump. Its wings are half spread and held low to protect its food from other birds. The barring of its plumage on its breast and underside of its wings is central in the photo. Its head is half turned to the side showing one deep orange-red eye. The background is blurred bright green dappled sunlight on foliage

Spot the hare! It took a few attempts to get the camera to spot it! Photographed in the Cumbrian rain forest last week. When you can't get close, you photograph the animal in it's environment! 馃ぃ I was the other side of a fast flowing beck, and it was watching me. 馃搷Cumbria, UK #UKwildlife #mammals
A jumble of fallen branches in front of the base of a moss covered tree trunk with a steep slope covered in brown grass and fallen leaves behind. A hare is lying on the moss behind the tree trunk, well camouflaged and half hidden behind the branches.
