If nothing else, recording the episode about it for @maximumpowerpodcast.com was one of my favourite podcast recordings ever.

Fascinating work. The idea that theta sweeps can be dynamically biased by attentional control adds a really compelling layer to how we think about hippocampal navigation.

Brain network identified for effective treatment of Parkinson's disease

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) improves motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease by modulating a specific brain network that is mainly active in the fast beta frequency range (20 to 35 Hz).

If oscillations are modulated in amplitude from trial to trial, and those oscillations have a non-zero mean, they "create" an evoked response. It is a baseline-shift mechanism for ERP/ERF generation. Here is a simulated example of how alpha oscillations may generate readiness potential. #brainmovies

🧠 Deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease achieves its best results when a precisely defined brain network operating in the high beta frequency range is targeted. This was shown by a team @andreashorn.org @bahnebahners.bsky.social in both space and time for the first time.👇 uni.koeln/5LYV7

interesting oscillation peak frequency shifts under LSD compared to placebo, with power vs. frequency dissociation: regions that attenuated a lot in power, shifted relatively little in frequency & vice versa. 1/f-fits appear worse for LSD condition, implications of this would be interesting. 🤔

✨ Key result #1: LSD speeds up brain rhythms Across the cortex, intrinsic alpha & beta #oscillations shift to faster frequencies. 👉 What often looks like reduced spectral power is largely explained by shifts in peak frequency, not just a loss of rhythmic structure.

New Journal Club: Neural manifolds are maturing from visualization trick to biological claim. But if population activity lives on low-dimensional manifolds, what constrains the geometry?

Manifolds, Dendrites, and the Geometry of Neural Computation

The population doctrine—the view that populations, not individual neurons, constitute the fundamental unit of computation—has been gaining ground for years.

🚨 Preprint alert! 🧠 What happens to the brain under LSD? Using #MEG & Machine Learning, our latest study led by PhD candidate @venkateshness.bsky.social reveals that LSD speeds up neural oscillations and boosts brain fractality. 📄 👉 shorturl.at/suhPU Some highlights below 🧵1/n
