The NIH is dismissing dozens of vetted scientific reviewers to install politically-aligned replacements This compromises US research by invoking a political takeover of the funding process - ensuring MAGA/MAHA loyalists fill these spots to push their biased agenda www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Exclusive: NIH to dismiss dozens of grant reviewers to align with Trump priorities

Exclusive: NIH to dismiss dozens of grant reviewers to align with Trump priorities

The move would undo years of work, leaving advisory councils understaffed, and without the full expertise needed for reviews.

Very interesting study. The question is always when it comes to ischemic cardiomyopathy, who really has it? I suspect specificity of CMR is underrated and angio overrated here. #cardiosky

HFrEF is still a very common indication for invasive coronary angiography in our department. This beautiful new trial suggests that #whycmr could be a safe alternative. Read the editorial here: t.co/Qyvb6mhIA3 #cardiosky

Oops! Novo Nordisk’s lawyers forgot to pay annual patent fees for semaglutide drugs Ozempic and Wegovy in Canada, so their drug will lose its patent protection as of January. buff.ly/8XKlU9R Hims & Hers plans to offer a generic version in Canada. #medsky #pharmasky
A box of Ozempic in orange and white with a blue drug pen on it. Behind it is a box of Wegovy. The box is white with navy blue writing and a blue and white pen.

Remarkable follow up story on an HIV "elite controller" who may now have achieved functional "cure". For several years she had maintained control of the virus without treatment and more recently viremia did not rebound even while receiving cancer treatment. www.science.org/content/a….

The Muppets Movie (1979) was wonderful, and seeing it on the big screen was fabulous. It came out just a few weeks before I was born, and as I watched it I realized that I'd never actually seen it in full before today. I thought I'd seen all the Muppet movies before, but apparently not. 15/10

Are there any Canadian-based radiologists here that would be interested in being the first to pilot a human-AI interface study that I’m about to start recruiting for? Feel free to DM or email [email protected] and I can share the Information Letter. Thanks! #radiology #radiologist

so what he's saying is mamdani's about to cause quite a buzz

Right-wing columnist Charles Gasparino complains that Zohran Mamdani wants to hand out "free bees"

Tweet from Charles Gasparino:

I keep hearing that young people are propelling Mamdani because the city is so unaffordable.
The real question is whether young people should want to start their career here particularly by living in Manhattan. There are much more affordable places w good paying jobs, decent living standards and low crime. Mamdani handing out free bees will just make the place less affordable and Miami and Dallas more appealing

This is exactly my issue with the simplistic pitches Indigenous hear about Settler politics. “You can’t vote for him, don’t you know our guy is better for you?” Aside from being paternalistic as heck, in my eyes they’re both leaders of a harm machine. Only difference is one side smiles more.

"Vote for my guy even if he's evil" is the reason why you're losing. Decades of that has allowed your guy to be so cartoonishly evil that literally their only positive attribute is that they aren't as bad as the other guy. If you had been pushing back the whole time maybe that wouldn't be the case

Far down the list of things to worry about, but I am very curious if healthcare institutions and other public-facing agencies in the US will do even worse on language concordance now that racism is the law of the land more than before. No bandwidth to do that study - I hope someone else does!

I walked into a pizza joint called "Big Slice" just now. I asked for a slice of pizza. They said there weren't any. I'm very confused.
