For the entirety of the Artemis II mission, the use of a space toilet caught the public eye, both when it worked properly and when it didn’t. NASA may have to make some changes to the system for future missions.

Since my last newsletter, I gave Elsie her first bath, was inspired by the Artemis II mission, and attended several lovely events. Learn about my upcoming classes and signings here:

I maybe should have reposted this during Artemis II, when we saw lots of interesting lunar lighting effects. It's all about sun angles & their effects on crewed lunar surface operations. That'll be super important when astronauts land at the poles. spaceflighthistory.blogsp….

High Noon on the Moon (1991)

The story of spaceflight told through missions and programs that did not happen - that is, the great majority of them.

Nick absolutely killed it with his film work while down here for Artemis II

I took this photo of Artemis 2 with a TLR film camera from the 1950s @spacescout.bsky.social

A slightly grainy, zoomed-out photo of the launch of Artemis 2, showing the rocket plume climbing into the blue sky.

Of course I only found this post-flight, but there is a good presentation of all the camera systems installed on the Artemis II Orion spacecraft. #Artemis Recording: www.youtube.com/watch?v=V…. PDF: ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/20...
power point slide showing the camera locations on the orion spacecraft.

For Artemis II, the vehicle-mounted OIS
comprises:
• 4 Solar Array Wing (SAW) cameras
• 3 in-cabin wireless cameras
• 3 external wired cameras
• 2 human-health monitoring cameras
• 2 camera controllers
• 1 Fwd Bay high speed camera
Other optical systems:
• 4 wireless cameras for NatGeo payload
(proprietary data)
• 4 Portable computing devices (tablets) with
webcams
• 2 Nikon D5 DSLR camera bodies (+ lenses,
batteries, etc.)
• 2 ZCube video encoders (prime + spare)
• 1 Docking Camera (DCAM)
• 1 Optical Navigation (OPNAV) camera
• 1 drag-on temp-mount camera to monitor
crew ingress (KSC system)

The #Artemis II mission has gifted us a new perspective on our home, and the images are nothing short of breathtaking. Captured as the crew swung around the far side of the moon, these photos represent more than just a technical milestone. They are a profound reminder of our place in the cosmos 🚀

There might be a theme to this year’s birthday celebrations…. #ArtemisII PS, I highly recommend having the Gen Z’s at work make you a birthday card.
An iconic birthday card made by my colleagues, which is a collage of a picture of the Moon in the background, a picture of astronaut Christina Koch, and a picture of me. A speech bubble from Christina says “Happy Birthday Nina Cameron, I love your moon-themed Vans and you are a very talented craftsperson”, and a speech bubble from me says “OMG thank you Artemis II astronaut mission specialist Christina Koch”.
A commemorative Timex watch. On the face you have the Artemis logo at the 1200 position and the red NASA worm logo at the bottom.

Artemis (2nd century CE). Odd that NASA didn’t use this on their mission patch. There’s still time I guess
Very strange statue of Artemis. She seems to be wearing a dress of breasts or fruit
