Many, memories of Sam Neill roles, all terrific—was he ever not great, & was there ever a bad Sam Neill film?—but one I haven’t seen mentioned is one of my favorite films: Wim Wenders’ Until The End Of The World. He wasn’t the star of the film, but he tells the beautiful story beautifully.

So many people are so upset about Sam Neill's death because he was a genuinely good guy. One fine example: in Event Horizon, he insisted the Australian flag remove the Union Jack and add the Aboriginal flag as he imagined that by 2047 we'd be a Republic and recognise indigenous history. Top bloke.

Twitter Sam Neill was an absolute delight. During that period of several years before it all went awful, NZ Twitter was this weirdly level playing field where you could talk to anyone, including "Mr Two Paddocks".
Getting a fave from him of one of your tweets was always welcome and not unheard of.

I won an award at Sundance years ago and Sam Neill, whom I did not know, tweeted to me “we’re all so proud of you, sweetheart”. I can’t even express what that meant to me. That our most beloved national treasure, a man I worshipped, would take the time to write to me!
