Paraguay are the opposite if Cape Verde; horrible to watch, full of cheats and you hope they go out every time you see them play. Come on the France! #wc26 #PARFRA

Well, between the crazy heat in Philly (hottest ever WC game they are saying), and Paraguay’s full-on commitment to just defending (with a soupçon of clutch and grab brought to that) France have NOT gotten untracked at all. You CAN simply defend in this sport. Takes a lot of skill, but you can.

I braved the outdoors for a few miles this morning before retreating to the AC (and World Cup matches). This orchard oriole was playing #peekaboo along the trail. #BirdOfTheDay #Birds #Photography #WildlifePhotography #Nature

Cape Verde has a population of little more than half a million people - less than Glasow. This week their team stood toe-to-toe with Uruguay, Spain and Argentina. They have their own country. Their own currency. Their own passport. Their own TV broadcaster. Their own seat at the United Nations.

My gateway drug into football was living in Europe in my teens and the 1998 World Cup France underdog team, despised & dismissed by pundits there for being mostly descendants / immigrants from former colonies, went on to win the thing & shut them up. Which is why we should root for Paraguay today.

NEW: When Canada needed a spark on the brink of a World Cup exit, Alphonso Davies stayed on the bench. After, he reignited concerns about Jesse Marsch’s management of his body. “We want players on the pitch that are 100%…and I felt like I wasn’t there yet.” www.theguardian.com/footb….

Sailor Izzy went to see the tall ships parade! Very cool to see so many beautiful ships from around the world. These two are NRP Sagres (of Portugal) and ARA Libertad (of Argentina).
Izzy doll by @imrights wearing a sailor suit and facing away from the camera, watching a tall ship (ARA Libertad of Argentina) sail north on the Hudson River.

I went to my first Indian-Irish wedding yesterday, with guests from Aotearoa, Canada, Chile, Argentina, Spain, Croatia, Colombia, Philippines, Samoa, England and Wales. People were straight, people were queer, and we had a ball. #DiversityIsOurStength

The US subjecting every World Cup match they are hosting to a military singing of their anthem at games they aren’t even playing in is reason 684 why the rest of the world hates you. Get a clue. No other country would do this. I won’t even mention the 250 MLB bullshit

Love the effect of the Cape Verde run. “the mass of humanity descended the huge, concrete exit ramps, there were embraces, and even tears, between opposing fans. There was mutual respect and affection. They knew their teams had combined to gift the world a match that won’t soon be forgotten” #pinks

Vancouver is #1 among World Cup host cities this year for the number of people who can easily take transit to the stadium. Boston is the biggest surprise due to its stadium being in the middle of nowhere (transit-wise).

This is cool. Shows Vancouver has the highest number and proportion of the metro’s population within 1 hr transit ride to its World Cup Stadium of any host.
