For #storyplants for #wildflowerhour it’s my first Field Wood-rush of the year. Local names include Good Friday grass (as typically flowers around Easter time), chimney sweepers, sweep’s brush, sweeps, smuts, blackcaps and treacle dabs

I'm not great on the teeny tiny ones, but I think this is whitlow grass, at RSPB Fairburn Ings today. #wildflowerhour Vying for my attention with courting great crested grebes!
A cluster of small white flowers with six petals each.

A solitary Cowslip spotted in the margins of a field in Hampshire. I have read that Saxon women used cowslips in love potions, and the flowers were sometimes used in rituals to predict future loves. I wonder if they worked💛 #wildflowerhour #storyplants #wildflowers #bloomscrolling #photography
A single cowslip, egg yolk yellow surrounded by green grass.

Two separate clumps of white violets this week in the Medway valley. I have not seen them before round here. Fact for #storyplants : John Clare wrote a poem about violets. ‘And just to say that spring was come The violet left its woodland home…’ #wildflowerhour

Narrow-leaved Lungwort, Pulmonaria longifolia, in folk lore it it said to lift the heaviness of despair, grief and depression and open you to celebrating life and letting your own light shine in the world. It certainly lifted my spirits meeting it this week. #wildflowerhour #storyplants

Herb Robert as an insect repellent. “The herb bruised and applied to places infested with Bugs, is said by Linnæus to drive them away” (William Curtis, ‘Flora Londinensis’, 1777-98). #StoryPlants #WildflowerHour
