Just within the past hour, nearly a dozen YouTube accounts have posted the pulled 60 Minutes CECOT story. CBS and Google can keep trying to take them all down, but it's sort of pointless now.

Apparently Fernando Pereira is donating to OpenReview (with a public announcement) because he cares about "open science" or "open research". News to me! He's the Google VP who wrote an anonymous "privileged and confidential" letter, sent to HR instructing us to retract our Stochastic Parrots paper.

Made the mistake of reassurance seeking on google (experiencing symptoms of the flu) and now it diagnosed me with lung cancer and super covid and a brain leak.

it is pretty funny that google went from being a place to get information to being a passive aggressive nonsense company that tells you 'oh you should google that', it is unintentionally a work of absurdist art

Your power bill has tripled and you can't afford new PC parts just to create this.

Looking at those criticism of FOSS/self-hosting and a few of those criticism are "No one would ever run their own server, it's stupid to think otherwise". But like, if you have a Google Home or Amazon Echo or Apple TV you already are, so I wonder if you can be convinced otherwise.

Trying to reverse image search (one of the great features of Google in recent years) on an image I know to be a mundane Edinburgh Corporation electrical transformer room, to try and find an original source for it, Google now instead confidently tells me this is an image of the control room in GCHQ 🤦‍♂️
Search screengrab of an image in Google, a black and white photo from the late 1950s it shows four men in a windowless brick room full of electrical switch equipment. Google's automatic "AI Overview" imediately below reads "This image captures a moment in the control room of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). GCHQ is the United Kingdom's intelligence and security organisation responsible for providing signals intelligence and information assurance to the government and armed forces. "

I honestly can’t take a fourth presidential election cycle in a row in which privileged white leftists claim that the Democratic Party doesn’t do anything because they’re too lazy to spend 5 minutes doing a Google search.

Yesterday, after playing tennis, I noticed a flock of big green birds gamboling on trees on Olympic near Roxbury. I think they might have been feral parrots. (They seemed big for parrots, but Google seems to think that’s what they were.) Life can still pleasantly surprise.

I'm sorry, if we're having a conversation about law stuff (design of the Supreme Court, in this case) and you cite, explicitly, a Google AI summary, to me, an actual factual expert in the field, to try to show why I'm wrong..... that's an insta-block

I was wondering why Google's weather information was increasingly diverging from local news reports, what thermometers were showing or, y'know, what I can see out of my window. Google is just making up the weather now.
A screenshot of a Google Blog summary from search results. It reads:

"WeatherNext 2: Our most advanced weather forecasting model

Nov 17, 2025 - Google's WeatherNext 2 is here, giving you faster and more detailed weather forecasts using AI..."

I keep seeing people share stories about how Google "killed" the Dreamcast browser and other older browsers, but AFAICT it's not true. Google killed *Google search* on older devices, not the whole web browser. Everyone's spreading confused articles that misread the actual source of info.

Google's news feed is so utterly broken it is functionally unusable. Here, it confuses the plot of a TV show with an actual story and replaces a Hollywood Reporter headline about the racial disparity in available leading roles with the absolutely insane hed "Simu Liu's brain hacked"

Good demonstration of why Google AI overview should not be trusted. According to this, Chris Rea had fairly robust opinions on the "business implications" of Brexit. But it's confusing singer Chris Rea with a completely different person.
Chris.Rea (the singer) commented on
Brexit, suggesting many businesses used
it as an excuse for poor investment.
rather than the core problem, noting he
personally "couldn't care less one way or
the other,' but wanted certainty; he
focused on non-European markets, while
another Chris (Chris De Burgh, also a
singer) called for a second vote due to
misinformation.

Chris Rea's (Singer) View:

• Blame Shifting: He felt many
companies blamed Brexit for issues like
declining car manufacturing, when
those problems stemmed from their
own failure to invest in hybrids/EVs or
reliance on diesel, or the EU's trade
deals with Japan, he told The Yorksh
Chris Rea, founder and managing director of
mechanical seal manufacturer AESSEAL,
said he 'honestly couldn't care less if
Britain was in or out of the European Union
but added that politicians just need to make
a decision to end the deadlock,

tech people are so much more liberal than almost any other population it's insane. 94% of campaign contributions from google employees for example went to democrats. california is famously liberal. anyone who thinks tech is conservative (aside from a few very high profile billionaires) is insane

You can easily namesearch me and my several posts I've made online about how I hate "data driven" policy and product work and how I think it sucks. But, c'mon man, the STEM people in this country who vote 2:1 democrat over republican aren't the ones trying to eliminate trans people from the earth.
