Oof Sir Walter feels very young now. Also if he were a person today he’d be one of those weird live forever techbros #inthenavy πŸ›

Vanity was the beginning and the end of Sir Walter Elliot's character; vanity of person and of situation. He had been remarkably handsome in his youth; and, at fifty-four, was still a very fine man. Few women could think more of their personal appearance than he did, nor could the valet of any new made lord be more delighted with the place he held in society. He considered the blessing of beauty as inferior only to the blessing of a baronetcy; and the Sir Walter Elliot, who united these gifts, was the constant object of his warmest respect and devotion.

I know it is a tiny thing, but the other feeds have the emoji in the title, but this one doesn't. Could you add πŸ› to the name of the feed?

I always get so tempted by this Easton Press edition of Jane Austen's novels, but $720? I've bought cars that cost less #inthenavy www.eastonpress.com/all-c….

I dug out my old Oxford World's Classics paperback that still has my undergraduate underlinings in it. I actually quite like their choice of cover illustration -- it's from a portrait by Sir Henry Raeburn, apparently. πŸ›
An Oxford World's Classics paperback edition of Jane Austen's Persuasion, with a cover illustration of two women in early 19th-century dress talking to each other.

Last year I was going to England, including Bath, and wanted to take the two Bath novels. Found this old version on Ebay and of course only read like 40 pages πŸ˜‚ πŸ›#InTheNavy

I am so prepared for #inthenavy: my old Penguin paperback copy of Persuasion, an ebook of the Oxford Classics, and my library had the audiobook read by Juliet Stevenson. I will also inevitably rewatch the Ciaran Hinds film. All Persuasion all the time! πŸ›

I caught up on feed requests as of about 8 this evening, and if I favorited your reply to the pinned skeet you should be all set. (And btw I catch up on these once a day, in the evening.) πŸ›πŸ“–

Here's our schedule for next month's read, Persuasion by Jane Austen! It fits nicely in a month, starting 5/4 to give a break after Catch-22 ends, with plenty of time for days off. Take a look and lmk if you see any issues with the schedule, and if you'd like to join reply to the quoted skeet! πŸ›

Come read Persuasion with us! Weirdly, on my phone the πŸ› emoji for the feed looks like a shower, and on my laptop, it looks like a bubble bath. FYI, if you're going, "Wait a minute..." like I did. (:bathtub: is what you're looking for)

I got this version off Thriftbooks. It's a little beat up, but it was only $7 and change. #InTheNavy

The only acceptable non-hard cover was still a kind of pretty-pretty thing, but I can put up with it I guess. (I didn't get a photo of it.) My absolute favorite, however, was this cover of Mansfield Park, which asks the question "what if Anne of Avonlea was a gothic romance with bdsm overtones?" πŸ›
A red-haired woman who looks like a vaguely frightened or maybe aroused Anne Shirley stands behind a cast iron gate, clutching it with one hand.

Then there was this Laura Ashley nightmare, which looks like it should be bathroom reading in a seaside vacation rental, circa 1987, that leans heavily on seashells for decor. πŸ›
A very ugly floral cover of Persuasion, featuring magnolias maybe.

Initially I only saw this... thing... and I almost walked out empty-handed rather than buy a cover where a cartoon version of a late-career Agatha Christie character peers through a telescope against a post-apocalyptic sky. And I'm not a ship person, but is that a galleon??? πŸ›
A lady with a braid and lots of makeup looks through a telescope in which some sort of ship is reflected, all against a red background.
