This is great news from Virginia! State-supported intercity bus routes are a critical component of any comprehensive state-wide transit system. This is particularly critical for keeping small towns and rural communities connected to each other and neighboring urban communities.

My book about being hit by a truck on a road with no bike lane in Toronto was a bust until I repackaged it with a lesbian trans Indigenous union member with purple hair as the driver. Now I have an Alberta publisher and a million dollar advance. youtu.be/W8Nhvr1X8Kc?...

I was present for said incident as well as the time when he and his partner showed up to another protest, shouted "LGB drop the T", and then said partner immediately hit himself in the bollocks on a bollard in front of the crowd. Thought it might be worth reminding people of those classic moments.

Does everyone remember Alex Bramham? The guy who was kicked out of a pride march cos he showed up in an LGB alliance t-shirt? Transphobes in the press made a big deal about it at the time, about how it showed how intolerant the left is etc... He's now a branch leader of the fascist NRP

The uncanny suburb on Camazotz was a milestone in my urbanist awakening.

I'm responsible for several local bollards which make me smile every time I walk past them (yes I am a giant nerd)

I used a bike rack this weekend that exists because I complained about it not existing. You can make things better, even just a little.

Skokie Swift service began April 20, 1964. The Skokie Swift service was established by CTA with assistance from the Village of Skokie and federal housing grants as part of a two-year demonstration project to try a new model for rapid transit connecting post-WWII suburban areas with a city center.

I grew up in a 15-Minute City. Well, we just called it a small town. It’s barely 2 sq miles and I could walk to school, the grocery store, bank, butcher, legion, bait shop, video store, pizza place, churches and more. The conservatives living there still seem to love it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some very wealthy corporations and people want you to think the idea of “15-Minute Cities” is a scary conspiracy. But it’s really just common sense. More things nearby without always needing a car. But have you heard of the “1-Hour City Conspiracy?” Stay tuned. #1HourCityConspiracy #UrbanTruth

Text saying “CONSPIRACY: Turns out the REAL conspiracy was right under their noses the whole time.”

Subtext says “ 1 Hour Cities are the Conspiracy. 15 Minute Cities are the Truth.”

Super interesting piece on why many of the new Indian metro systems have not got as many passengers as expected: bad modelling; fares too high; metros not integrated with other transport; and safety are some of the reasons given www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
India has splurged billions on metro trains. But where are the commuters?

India has splurged billions on metro trains. But where are the commuters?

Without better last-mile connectivity and affordable fares, metro use is unlikely to improve quickly, say experts.

'To relieve cities and protect the climate, expanding public transport is indispensable. However, anyone calling only for more money for public transit overlooks the fact that Germany's transport system is fundamentally dysfunctional and organized in a way that is hostile to innovation:

San Diego daylighting enforcement under fire as budget cuts proposed Woefully inadequate public education AND curb painting. Just another money grab for Todd and the CC. “There are more than 16,000 impacted intersections citywide, and the city has painted over 1,000 since the law took effect.”

Own/manage a large supermarket? Here's what you really must do: 1) Provide cycle parking, in the form of Sheffield stands 2) Position them near the doors, in a well-lit area, not hidden around the back 3) Cover the area with visible CCTV 4) Don't put pallets of tat in between the stands

Is USDOT launching a national congestion pricing program? If not, any campaign to “eliminate traffic bottlenecks across America” is doomed to fail.
