Just saw there is a Neil Peart documentary premiering at the Toronto Film Festival next month. Includes interviews with Alex and Geddy as well as them performing highlights of Neil’s work with guest drummers like Stewart Copeland, Chad Smith and Danny Carey. Can’t wait!

The Blood of Heroes (1989). A post-apocalyptic that I wish had a bigger cult. Combining a sports movie with a post-apocalyptic one juices both, with no sweeping good vs. evil stakes, just a grunt's eye view of daily life in the wasteland.

Revolver (1973). A chilly, chic Italian crime thriller that builds to a devastating conclusion with organized crime and cops in the end just subsidiary employees of the same faceless corporation. Held together by Morricone's score and the surprising homoeroticism between the leads.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988). Could not be any more 1988 if it tried but that's partly why I dug it. Very appealing final girl, and the film's style as substance is put to good use by director Renny Harlin making an unholy mating of a Bosch painting and Clearasil ad.

What Lies Beneath (2000). Telling a gothic, ghostly tale of revenge with Town & Country aesthetics works in anchoring Pfeiffer's sensitive, finely tuned performance, but leaves everything else feeling adrift. Wobbly, but worth watching for La Michelle.

Can't say I liked IT ENDS but I do commend aspects of it as a debut feature. It juuuust makes my list of notables for the year.
Still, now I've got the gnarliest itch to revisit DEAD END. If you're gonna make a movie like this, please put people like Ray Wise and Lin Shaye in it.
