And even with all of that, I still haven’t completed the lexicon model and method updates. To say I’m disappointed in myself is an understatement: I know this is on me, so I need to do better. I just need to figure out how to resolve for that.

I wanted to add support for adding and updating some of the remaining Bluesky lexicons, as well as adding the ability to add the ability to resolve PDS’ URL. I wasn’t able to do that because I simply wasn’t satisfied with the results: they simply broke.

My #Swiftlang #ATProto API library, ATProtoKit, has been updated to version 0.32.0. This ended up becoming a much smaller update than originally intended. It’s now been reduced to some tweaks and removals, such as adding new public initializers, as well as removing ATMacro. #atdev

so i was storing the cursor so that I could redeploy the firehose listener and restart, but that was super inconsistent, so instead of dropping like 30 seconds worth of events we were dropping... like hours or more. Sooo, just not storing cursors for now!

For example, PDS users could make use of certain labelers or lists that their group is paying for, rather than individuals having to buy. I don't love the idea of moderation behind a paywall, but that's a big source of expense/burnout that is hard to get people to pay for.

1000%, although I do wonder about the PDS hosting vs other layers. The Fediverse bundling it all together means you have one place to collect money in, but I'm thinking for example, about subscriptions for PDSes contributing to a pool of shared money that can be then paid out to services.

I'd have some questions about after registration. Is this a one time fee to register? Ongoing subscription? What would you imagine something like this providing out of the box? This got me curious, as I'm not sure I've seen many paid PDS offerings. A quick search only returned reallygoodhost.com

Website isn't working for me, but what I can gather from around is that was a $25/month fee for a managed PDS of up to 10 users. Overall, it feels hosting PDSes is lightweight enough that people could go a long way with charging a small fee/pooling resources together.

Decentralized networks consolidate over time. All network-effect-driven software ends in oligarchy at scale. For me, that makes credible exit, not decentralization, the top priority. And this has to start with credible exit being technically possible. newsletter.squishy.comput

Right. What I’m saying is you’re not going to see “instances” because that’s not how it works. You might enjoy checking out non-microblog apps like @recipe.exchange or @smokesignal.events, or the very different @anisota.net client. Cheers!

Glad to hear PDS moover helped! I also have this to allow 2FA for a self hosted PDS. It’s a microservice that runs along side the PDS to gatekeep those endpoints with 2FA if you turn it on tangled.org/@baileytowns...

yeah exactly. bluesky's production appview does timeline fanout: they pre-calculate the following feed for every user for every post from everyone they follow. this front-loads both resource costs and latency costs. you can get cheaper feeds by serving fewer users or having higher latency

Generating a new key does not revoke your old one. Here’s an example: The way you generate new keys requires an existing key to sign the PLC operation. The PDS stores a key and lets you sign ops with it.
