I had (past tense) a friend who had a baby when she was 48. I quit visiting because she always wanted me to hold him. I was a pediatric nurse & cared for preemies. No baby holding off the clock!

diabetes mellitus and maternal obesity suggests that shared pathophysiological mechanisms may increase the risk of prematurity. While pre-pregnancy obesity alone was not an independent predictor, gestational weight gain represents a critical modifiable factor. (🧵 10/12)

Why doesn't a rapid neonatal sepsis test already exist? According to a [email protected] report, the obstacle isn't scientific feasibility, it's the lack of commercial incentives to develop and adopt one. See how the proposed NeoTest mechanism aims to change that: go.cgdev.org/4p9YOdF

Gone but not forgotten 🌈 This was a postnatal gift for a friend who had lost her beloved dog some time before. I liked the thought of her furbaby now watching over her baby as a guardian angel.
An illustration with the reference picture in the top left corner.
The illustration shows a brown dog with a halo laying on a beige fur carpet. A little baby, swathed in a blue blanket, sleeping peacefully, is laying against the dog's side. The dog is looking gently at the baby, a little heart above their heads.

Gender assignment is an incredibly complex biological process that can be influenced by genetics, maternal, pre- and postnatal exposure to mutagens, influence of disease on hormone development and distribution, and influences on critical behavioral/psychological development.

Among >15 000 children born before 32 weeks' gestation, over half did not meet expected educational attainment at age 5–7. Lower gestational age and deprivation were major risk factors; modifiable exposures included maternal smoking and feeding. ja.ma/4vwlCWo
Bar chart displaying the percentage of students who did not meet the expected level for various outcomes like EYFSP, Phonics, and KS1 subjects (reading, writing, math, science). Data is grouped by GA, wk (23-31), showing a general trend of higher percentages for earlier weeks.
