Join me at the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester on Sunday 11th October 2026 for the museum's Classic Car Day, featuring vintage vehicles, heritage bus rides and some fascinating behind-the-scenes activity as the museum closes for the day. The event brought together a selection of classic cars alongside the museum's impressive collection of preserved buses and other historic commercial vehicles, providing a wonderful opportunity to enjoy different generations of motoring and transport history. During the day, we take rides aboard two historic buses from the museum's collection: 🚌 Manchester 74 – A preserved Manchester bus offering visitors the opportunity to experience a journey aboard a vehicle from the city's transport history. 🚌 Lancashire United 97 – Another classic bus providing a nostalgic journey and a reminder of the once-familiar Lancashire United fleet. Alongside the onboard footage, we take a look at some of the classic cars attending the event, capturing a selection of vehicles representing different eras of British motoring. But the action doesn't finish when the visitors leave! As the museum prepares to close, we stay behind to capture the end-of-day museum shunt, watching as buses are manoeuvred around the building and returned to their display positions. These movements provide a fascinating glimpse of the work involved in managing a museum filled with full-size historic vehicles, with some impressive manoeuvring required to get everything safely back into place. With two heritage bus rides, classic cars and plenty of museum shunting, this video offers an enjoyable look at both the public event and the behind-the-scenes activities at one of Greater Manchester's best-known transport heritage attractions.
