Val'dran as an NPC ally, you would meet him in the Underdark, being irritated about Absolute cultists blocking his way to getting something he refuses to tell you about.
He'll accompany you for much of the dealings with Nere and the dwarves, though not fight so much as assist.

#tavqotd I have started to think of Augustine this way, really, as he's more of an Act 3 NPC.
You'd have had to help him at a few small junctures as a healer only to find him spurring up revolution in Rivington by the crossing, and leading his Truthseekers from the refugee camp.
