King County will install new signs showing banned motos, ATVs and high-speed e-bikes

King County Parks has launched a new public awareness campaign to emphasize that while Class 1 and 2 e-bikes and electric foot scooters are allowed on county shared use trails, motorcycles (gas or electric), mopeds, ATVs and Class 3 e-bikes are not allowed. Basically, if it has a gas motor of any kind or an electric motor capable of powering the device beyond 20 mph, it is not allowed to be used on a King County trail even users are traveling below the county's 15 mph speed limit. The campaign includes new signs outlining the prohibitions:

Anyone in the Seattle bike community feel free to yell something like "It's illegal and inconsiderate to park on the sidewalk, have some respect for your neighbors" when you ride by on 21st Ave SW. Would be quite fitting if their sidewalk parking means they can't enjoy their outdoor space anymore.

This is taking me back to grad school when I bike-commuted on the Burke-Gilman trail and there was a Rainier cherry stand right on the trail near U Village. They were ripe, delicious, and pretty cheap. I’d buy a bag and gobble them all up within ten minutes of getting back to my apartment.

Latest Leary/Market ‘Burke-Gilman Trail’ concept still mixes biking and walking on busy sidewalks + Comments due July 15

A few weeks ago, I walked the route of Councilmember Dan Strauss's proposed trail along Leary Avenue NW and NW Market Street with a group of dedicated walking and biking advocates from Ballard-Fremont Green Streets and Cascade Bicycle Club. We had a printout of the recently-released 60% design to reference as well as a measuring tape to fully get a sense of what it would be like if it were completed. I wanted to ground-truth concerns about the design that Seattle Bike Blog and others voiced during the previous design phase that have gone unchanged in the latest version.
