So, like, this isn’t even my rant. This is just, like, what is true. The annual salary of approximately 1,500 faculty members is caught up in buyout/guarantee money for two football coaches. This is happening in the midst of hiring freezes and dramatic budget cuts in academic units. It’s just true.

FWIW, I find LLMs incredibly useful and I use them frequently - so does my lab, where we (try to...) build new tools taking advantage of them.
However, it is critically important to understand their promise vs limitations. Make sure your "rapture-to-bullshit continuum" is well-calibrated...

Nothing known about disease severity w/BA.3.2. So far, we've not seen large changes in virulence w/novel Omicron lineages, so my prior would be to expect little change.
Biggest risk is that BA.3.2 adds a key mutation, like BA.2.86 did w/S:L455S (becoming JN.1), which led to a global surge in cases.

Whatever you do, make it as easy as possible - least amount of activation energy. In my case, a new gym opened up across the street from my kids school - I drop them off and go work out.
