Signs point to US war w Venezuela. Maybe regime change? How have past Latin Amer regime changes by US turned out? History shows US has track record of leaving chaos, civil wars, poverty & northward migration in wake of LA govt coups. Did anyone vote for this? theintercept.com/2025/11/….

I struggle with whether serial killer or mass murderer is more apropos given he has an affinity for going after fishermen. Specifically, Latin fishermen.🤷‍♀️

Since we aren't in a war, Pete Hegseth isn't technically a war criminal. He's just a garden-variety mass murderer.

Kinda rude for Ricky Martin to go telling everyone that chick bangs. Is this a sultry latin song or a bathroom stall wall?

Agapanthus is a genus of plants, the only one in the subfamily Agapanthoideae of the family Amaryllidaceae. The family is in the monocot order Asparagales. The name is derived from Ancient Greek ἀγάπη (agápē), meaning "love", and ἄνθος (ánthos), meaning "flower". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aga….

A couple of the examples of "dōm" are translating Latin words with Latin's own cognate -m ending, like "faciam" ('I may do') in this section of the Lindisfarne Gospels and their Old English glosses:

I should add that point 14 is referring specifically to calligraphy and MS culture in Western, Christian Europe, it very much does not apply to e.g. Chinese calligraphy.
12. I think the 4thC psalmodic movement, the rise of early monasticism, and the fact that psalms became central to monastic life and then became the liturgical core of the Divine Office (and therefore books of hours) also fits into the “universalization of monastic practice”. How psalms became the dominant method of both literacy education and Latin education, and also became the central part of the monastic schedule, and then increasingly spread beyond monastery walls along with literacy and book use in the form of books of hours.
13. Speaking of the Devotio Moderna, one aspect of scribal professionalization is that it’s very rarely lucrative. The Paston’s scribe had to beg them for firewood-money. The Devotio Moderna tried to make book-making a central pillar of their practice (economically as well as devotionally) and repeatedly discovered that book-making is really unprofitable. Probably also relevant to the “short careers” thing.
14. This might be after the intended period, but I think a piece of the “changing education” narrative would be the fact that “being good at calligraphy for its own sake” is an exclusively post-print phenomenon. Arrighi’s “Operina” has no medieval equivalent. Super-athletic feats a la Esther Inglis or the Mira Calligraphiae which exist *to* show off calligraphy are *exclusively* post-print.

In this Ohio town, it was tradition: Latin mass, biscuits and gravy at Bob Evans, and then down to the old marina to shoot a bunch of fishermen and claim they were running drugs. But now the woke mob wants to take all that away.

Lou Rawls - Latin Casino, Cherry Hill, NJ, 5-24-1977

Here's an obscure yet great sounding concert bootleg starring soul singer Lou Rawls. I hope it won't stay obscure after I post this. Rawls had a lot of hit singles between 1965 and 1971, especially on the U.S. R&B singles chart. But after that, his career stalled for a few years. Then, in 1976, he changed record companies and changed his management. That led to his comeback hit in late 1976, "You'll Never Find Another Love like Mine," which sold over a million copies. He also didn't have any big hits after 1977. (He died in 2006 at the age of 72.) So 1977 is a good time for a concert recording from him. The music here is unreleased, but the sound quality is excellent. It must be a soundboard or FM radio broadcast. This album is 54 minutes long. 01 Groovy People (Lou Rawls) 02 This Song Will Last Forever (Lou Rawls) 03 Tobacco Road (Lou Rawls) 04 Natural Man (Lou Rawls) 05 talk (Lou Rawls) 06 Pure Imagination (Lou Rawls) 07 Charge Card Blues Medley (Lou Rawls) 08 It Was a Very Good Year (Lou Rawls) 09 talk (Lou Rawls) 10 Old Folks (Lou Rawls) 11 You'll Never Find Another Love like Mine (Lou Rawls) 12 talk (Lou Rawls) 13 Let's Fall in Love All Over Again (Lou Rawls) 14 All the Way (Lou Rawls) 15 See You When I Get There (Lou Rawls) https://pixeldrain.com/u/vCtfiufM alternate: https://bestfile.io/SYwUa7VQ62p6Uan/file The cover photo is from an appearance on an ABC TV show called "Thursday Night Special" in 1977.
