Intriguingly, and perhaps a little scarily- given the ability of AI to outperform humans in specific arenas, AI may become recommended or even mandated standard of care eg. monitoring for deterioration.🤯 And that will need to be balanced against patient consent and privacy. #RACS26 #MedSky

Chelsea Gordon, AI Legal Lead @minterellison.bsky.social , brings balance to surgical futurism by noting the many and overlapping regulatory requirements already being tested by case law. It will be the *clinician's* responsibility to meet these requirements. #RACS26

Actual photo of bronchial casts. No AI here. These were retrieved from the tracheobronchial tree of a young child with congenital cardiac condition. These casts are made of lymph and mucous squeezed into the airway and coagulating together to critically block the airway tree.

As part of the Stanford Health Career Collaborative, students from East Palo Alto Academy and Eastside College Preparatory School spent the day with #StanDOM, getting hands-on in the Goodman Surgical Center, exploring the Anatomy Lab & hearing from physicians about how they built their careers.
Three people are engaged in a conversation outdoors near a fountain. Two are seated on a bench, holding papers, while the third is standing nearby. Trees and part of a building are in the background.
A group of people sit on the edge of a fountain, interacting and enjoying a sunny day. Most hold laptops or notebooks. Trees and greenery surround the area.
A person is using a Da Vinci surgical system, interacting with its controls and viewing through a visor.
A group of people posed on outdoor steps in front of a modern building with large glass windows. The sun is shining, creating a clear day with some trees visible. Everyone appears relaxed and smiling.

How can a surgeon confuse a liver for a spleen, killing a patient in the process? Thomas Shaknovsky wants us to believe that’s what happened, but as a surgeon who’s taken out many spleens and parts of livers, that absolutely is not a thing that can happen accidentally. So what actually happened?
Surgeon indicted for manslaughter after removing a patient's liver instead of his spleen!?
