Page 1 of Swan & Ram Chapter 1: A Life in Pictures. Panel 1 is a wide establishing shot of the headquarters of a company called 'Compusure Systems Inc'. Behind the building, the sun has begun the process of setting. Text on the bottom right reads 'One Late Afternoon, On A Friday in October...' Panels 2 and 3 lead us through the dark office spaces, to a cubicle with a nameplate that reads 'RAM : Systems Technician'. In Panel 4 we see Ram through a distorted reflection of a cluttered computer screen, before Panel 5 shows him proper, looking tired and bored as he types. In Panel 6 his attention is drawn to a ping from his phone, and in Panel 7 we see that the phone has a notification to remind him it's 'Date Night'. In Panel 8, which is split in half, we see Ram looking down at this happily, before glancing up at something above him. In Panel 9 it's revealed that its his office noticeboard, which is covered in photos of him and his boyfriend, Swan. There's also two sticky-notes, one saying to 'Call Mum!' and the other saying 'Get Pizza Orders', which counters a list of rules on the right that strictly says not to do this.
Page 2 of Swan & Ram Chapter 1: A Life in Pictures. Panel 1 shows Ram's hand knocking on a door with a sign that reads 'Chief Architect'. Panel 2 shows Ram standing in the open doorway, looking into the office, where a silhouetted figure is working on a laptop. Ram says "Hey Boss, just reminding you I'm finishing early today'. Panel 3 reveals the figure, Ram's boss, to be an ageing male dog guy. One who doesn't even look up from his work to acknowledge this with a "Mmhm, I remember...". Before looking up in Panel 4 and continuing with "A word though, before you leave. Ram...do you value your position at this company?" In Panel 5, we see a surprised Ram respond "What? Of course I do! I just promised my partner I'd-" cut off then by the Boss continuing with "It's just...taking half days off work? That's not the sort of behaviour that gets you that promotion you've been asking for". In Panel 6, the Boss continues. "This is a Company that values loyalty and hard work above all else. If you're consistently taking leave, purely for leaves' sake? We will begin to question if you're the right fit for us" Ram, stepping back into the dark corridor with a sad face and lowered ears responds "R...right..." before the Boss continues with "You're good at your job, Ram. You could go far here. It'd be a shame for you to throw that all away." Panel 7 is a close up of Ram leaving the room with a sad face, glancing back as the Boss says "Enjoy your evening..." before Panel 8 is a silhouette of Ram standing in the corridor, head lowered, presumably sad about the conversation that's just been had.
Page 3 of Swan & Ram Chapter 1: A Life in Pictures. Panel 1 is a wide establishing shot of a village park, buildings in the background and the sun setting in the distance. The words 'MEANWHILE...' in the top right corner. Panel 2 and 3 show a black and white shot of a female deer (A doe) hanging upside down from a fence, although we are upside down with her. 'Blood' is steadily flowing down her face, which makes her go "Mmngh" and move to wipe it in Panel 3, causing "Cut!" to be yelled off screen. In Panel 4 it's revealed that Swan is filming her with a expensive looking camera, smiling as he says "Jane, you're a corpse! Corpses don't move, bar some kinda 'Demon Cult' voodoo situation". Panel 5 sees Jane (The doe) respond, still upside down with "It's not easy hanging upside down from a fence, y'know? And why are you pouring raspberry syrup over me? I thought this was in Black & White?", to which Swan, now busying himself away on a laptop, replies "Because I'm going make it so everything BUT the blood is monochrome. It'll look super stylish and cool!". Panel 6 sees Jane mutter a "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I've seen that before..." before Swan responds with a "Nuh-uh...", and then Jane continues with a "Whatever, will you hurry up? I'm feeling dizzy, and all this 'blood' is starting to get in my eyes". This comment gets a confused reaction from a passing Lizard in Panel 7, with Jane looking his way warily, and Swan waving to him and saying "Evenin, sir!" In Panels 8 and 9, we return to the Black & White, upside down camera-view, with an unimpressed Jane looking forwards as Swan says "Alright...rolling...action!", and then squirts way too much raspberry syrup over Jane, causing her to shout "SWAN!!" angrily.
Page 4 of Swan & Ram Chapter 1: A Life in Pictures. Across pages 1-6, we see a close-up of Ram talking to an off-screen figure through various states of emotion, ultimately ending in tears. "I guess it's just not quite what I'd thought it'd be like, y'know? Adulthood?" "I worked hard at school. Got good grades. Then I made my way to Uni. Worked hard there too. Got my degree, my parents were so proud of me for that. I was so excited, to see what came next. To start living my own life!" "But I just ended up a cog in a machine. A machine that doesn't care about me. That asks so much and gives so little in return. Sure, the pay's good, but so what? I work so late I hardly get a chance to enjoy it" An off-screen voice says "Sir..." "But then I met him. The love of my life. Someone who can make even my worst days better, just by being there when I get home." "He's had such a hard life, compared to me. I should be grateful for what I had, and what I have now. But his job allows him so much time. Time for his passions. Time to live. I...I feel..." "I feel ...jealous...and I feel t-trapped. H...how do you tell the one you love must, t-that...that-" The off-screen voice repeats "SIR!" In panel 7, it's revealed that Ram is parked outside the food collection window of a CYN Tuesday restaurant. The off-screen voice is a staff member, who says "I'm very sorry to hear all that, sir. But this all goes a bit above and beyond my expectations of asking 'How was your day?'" To which a still emotional Ram responds "Oh...right. Sorry. Uh...do you take contactless?".
