met one of the Berrigan brothers. Where... Where else, next urinal over. Can't make this stuff up... Met William Sloane Coffin at the Riverside... gregarious, stuck out his hand and goes, "Hi, I'm Bill Coffin.." I was 17. I wanted to say, "Hi, I'm nobody from a NJ High School"

Suffragette Dorothy Day in 1970, holding the dress she wore in jail in 1917, signed by other women also arrested for protesting in Washington, D.C. A journalist, anarchist, and social activist, Day would co-found the Catholic Worker Movement.

Also, I can’t wait to see now how unhinged Colbert is going to get in his surreal, Catholic Worker-Thomas Merton-inspired way of comedy.

I’m thinking about the Dorothy Day quote, “Everyone wants to talk about revolution but no one wants to do the dishes.” Really speaks to the moment. Yes, there is important work to be done protecting our communities AND caring for people is how we move from reactive to sustainable

From Ann Keeler Evans Dorothy Day: "The greatest challenge of the day is: How to bring about a revolution of the heart, a revolution which has to start with each one of us."

This is one of the first times a reporter has highlighted the connection between Jubilee House and the Catholic Worker movement and it makes me so happy.

I somehow completely missed that this news story dropped. I interviewed for it months ago. lol www.wvua23.com/news/local/w...

I am lucky to see many men in my life at the Catholic Worker model this focus on care work, rather than paid word. It is a quiet revolutionary practice that gives me hope for a world without patriarchy and capitalism (though the Catholic Worker has both still!)

So, if we really want to tackle the loneliness problem, we need to prevent paid work from demanding so much of our time and energy that we can't (or simply don't want to) contribute to a shared project of care. Because that pressure is at the core of both loneliness and inequalities in care. 4/

The Last Mile with USAID

Another quote from Dorothy Day that still hit harder than most headlines: “Our problems stem from our acceptance of this filthy, rotten system.” SCOTUS let Trump gut DOE & kill USAID. Congress is being erased. Speak up—or let the rot spread.

They’re about to steal billions in life-saving aid—and hand it to DHS to fund racial profiling, raids, and disappearances. USAID saves lives. DHS terrorizes them. Call your senator before July 18. See the image below. Share it. Leave a quote. Let them know where you stand.

Cream-colored poster featuring a quote in black serif font: “What good are your beliefs if they don’t cost you anything?” —Dorothy Day. Below the quote, in bold sans-serif font: “THE LAST MILE WITH USAID,” with “USAID” in blue and red.

Dorothy Day, from her autobiography The Long Loneliness (1952). Again, perhaps something American Catholic leadership might benefit from revisiting during these large scale federal immigration raids that are terrorizing communities of Catholic workers
