a common loop for Claude with generic code is:
* it writes the first version
* rustc says some trait bounds are missing
* it adds those trait bounds
it doesn't step back and ask the higher level question of what the bounds should be, it just does what the error output says

Folks don't want to overload readers, so they avoid IORef and mutation, leading to tutorials teaching just algorithm W using subst merging and a lazy bag of constraints with knot tying. Where rust or ocaml have idiomatic mutation, so you can go straight to algo J very naturally.
