Just for clarity :-) I was just a mid-level editor for one of Knight Ridder's newswires; we shared offices with the Washington Bureau of Iraq War fame. Just sayin' I don't speak for the former company or its employees. :-)

Legacy media have melted into cowards. But that's been true for a long time. Remember when all media cucks (except Knight Ridder/McClatchy) elbowed out one another to jump onto the Iraq war wagon lie? Like almost all wealth, they are cowards when pressed by dictators. Even stupid ones like tRump.

I worked for a knight ridder (RIP) paper at the time, and they were the only news organization saying the administration was lying. And almost nobody ran their stories.

That's sort of true but it's also the case that objections simply weren't allowed any space at all in the corporate press. Knight Ridder had 2 or 3 reporters who were doing a great job of countering the case for war all along but they couldn't pay to get their work covered by the big boys.

The incredulity of Knight Ridder reporters is covered by this film. Nice quote here from John Walcott (Washington Bureau Chief ATT). Barely scraped through the box office in 2017, US indifference to the truth summed up by one review panning it as “dramatically inert” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sho….

It depended on who was doing the debating. Cruz is compiling two bad-faith arguments - claiming civilians are combatants and that Iraq is a present threat. It's more mainstream that Iran is not a present threat than Iraq was (despite the Knight Ridder reporting to the contrary) 1/2

I was too young to be ware of the Iraq invasion debate but was it this degree of stupid? It can't have been this stupid.

….fiasco happed because Bush kept insisting that Iraq had attempted to obtain yellowcake uranium from Niger even though he had been told that was definitely not true. Knight Ridder’s Jonathan Landay and Warren Strobel repeatedly reported on those CIA doubts before the invasion. When asked later by

You didn't follow it more aggressively as Corporate Media saw it as a ratings bonanza. Most the country saw the fix was in. Sec Powell doing a 180 in months. Gen Shinseki telling the obvious truth no one wanted to hear. Rove and Cheney had your all's number. Only Knight Ridder asked hard questions.

Jake Tapper on C-SPAN: "I feel this way about the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq story. I was a reporter that was skeptical of the WMD claim, but certainly in hindsight I wish I had been more skeptical. When it comes to President Biden's acuity ... I wish I had covered it more aggressively."
