One thing I tried for a bit was the rule in Numenera that you could only carry so many cyphers at once or they would possibly fizzle out from interference or even explode. This encouraged use. Eventually I just got real about encumbrance and went with slot based and made all trinkets take a slot.

A two-part tumblr post by raskolnikovslawyer. The top half has Ryoji Mochizuki superimposed onto it. The second half has Shinjiro Aragaki's apron wearing sprite superimposed onto it

The top half reads: coffee shop by my house hired a new barista who is extraordinarily hot and flirts with me incessantly but he also makes the worst - and i truly mean the worst - coffee i've ever paid for. atrociously bad. just another of god's little jokes

The bottom half reads: just remembered the barista who worked there last year and treated me with an attitude generally reserved for children and the incompetent to the point where he would frequently adjust my drink order in front of me and every single time it was BANGIN'
A text conversation. The sender is titled "President." Shuji Ikutsuki's neutral sprite is to the left of the image. Mitsuru Kirijo's wide-eyed sprite is to the right.

The texts read:
Shuji: Non binary gold prospector.
Mitsuru: am i going to be receiving any context for this message
Shuji: They dug up a fortune in them/their hills
A screenshot of a tumblr post by numenera and its two follow-ups, but sufferinglesbian and pathfindersociety repectively. Junpei's open-mouth sprite is beside the original post, seeming generally positive. Mitsuru is next to the reblog. Junpei is also beside the second reblog, eyes slightly closed and sporting a wide smile.

The post reads:
OG: gf... is the sun
Reblog: explain...
Reblog 2: radiates warmth and love and gives me life
Junpei Iori and Yukari Takeba on opposite sides of a text conversation. Junpei's sprite is shocked with wide eyes. Yukari appears slightly annoyed

The conversation reads:
Junpei: MY SISTER IN CHRIST YOU WRITE THE CHARACTER
Yukari: I am ALLOWED to think he's ANNOYING
Junpei: But you made him
Yukari: mom made you and she thinks you're annoying

I ran a Numenera game for the group of one of my Patrons (Shane aka TrvShane). One player asked if there was anything "numenerical" in the area that they could examine. I said, "Wow I'd love to hear a version of Modern Major General that used that term!" Cue Shane coming up with this:

Numenera is a brilliant RPG setting marred by a an absolute dogshit core mechanic. In Numenera, 99% of all loot is supposed to be single use magic items. They're equivalent to scrolls, except that anyone can use them, and you can't copy them into your spell book.

because even if it is, they can only use it once. This was way before Numenera and it's clear he was thinking this way when he created Cyphers. At any rate this is just to say I totally agree with this tip. 😆

Just backed Jewel in the Sky for Cypher from @montecookgames.com. A megadungeon with both fantasy and sci-fi elements! Looks like a great fit for my Numenera campaign. I love the art and the layout. Can’t wait to dig into the text! mymcg.info/jewel
