One of the books I recommend most often is Tolstoy's Hadji Murat. Everyone knows Anna Karenina and how he embeds an astoundingly rich portrayal of Russian high society within a furious critique of it. Well this is what he does for the military in HM.

The "perceptual echo" seen in EEG recordings seems to emerge from the collective behavior of a thalamus-cortex feedback loop resonating at alpha rhythm. Thalamocortical network dynamics can explain visual impulse responses and perceptual echoes doi.org/10.1016/j.is... #neuroscience

The cortex and cerebellum split the labor: the cortex provides a stable, general-purpose movement blueprint, while the cerebellum reorients that same blueprint differently for each context Granule cells reorient cortical trajectories to separate contexts www.nature.com/articles/s41... #neuroscience

Wow! This is not fake news. I just looked up Lake Ontario on Google maps and got Lake America. Shame on us. How come so many are capitulating? How come we can't get that guy out?

Fuck you Google. We will all remember your capitulation to a mad king

Fun piece from @danabra.mov, though I'd make one note on: > Although Lean is primarily used for theorem proving rather than computation ... The extreme coolness is that by Curry-Howard, these actually are not different: Lean proving A => B constructs a program with input type A and output type B.

Since everyone is suddenly interested in Lean with LLMs proving open math problems and people imagining coding agents that can formally verify their own work, this is a great programmer-friendly explanation by @danabra.mov of why Lean is so interesting. overreacted.io/beyond-boole...
