Counterpoint: no, it isn’t. Leo is in line with the traditional teaching of the church. Trump is a warmonger, corrupt, delights in humiliating others, and is blasphemous on a level that wouldn’t even occur to most people.

Harassment, personal abuse, & threats have become an endemic part of Irish political life. & it’s by & large driven by social media, which has played a major part in all of these incidents.
All of these incidents have been shocking but pale into insignificance compared to what happened this week.

With the caveat that I've been lapsed for my entire adult life, I'm still enough of a left-footer that I'd take any so-called "Catholic" who was pleading divided loyalties in Leo v Trump by the hand and explain, calmly & quietly, as if to a small child, that perhaps Catholicism isn't for them.
