@simonforstroud.bsky.social Simon, are you concerned about this action by Kent police? Using this interpretation of the law, everyone involved in the Vigil for Palestine on Fridays in Stroud could be deemed guilty of an offence. Will you please raise concerns about this with the Home Secretary.

Holding a Palestinian Flag & a sign saying Free Gaza is now an offence - according to Kent Police. #Starmtroopers www.theguardian.com/world/2025/j...

Young voters now realise that Brexit is affecting their everyday lives and the implications and restrictions it has placed on them when they search for employment in Europe. They also see the lies and the fantasies of sunlit uplands has made their futures uncertain and the British public poorer.

just saw the adam frazier trade now. it's more or less a nothing trade because frazier is also a nothing, but: if you are an old middle infielder still in AAA, being acquired by ben cherington is a disqualifying trait.

I just wish it was the headline item in discussion of the future of our uplands ~ we simply need to enable them to hold more water for every reason. Anyone can get that. The moment they are freed from overgrazing & burning our uplands start to become able to hold more water.

How do you ensure a nation fails to cope with drought? Privatise its water system. Almost everyone wants our water renationalised. Almost everyone, that is, except the government. This week's column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

A lot of good points. Not the one about converting the uplands to cellulose farming, we've been there, done that. And his best point left until last - farm incomes are unliveably low.

LOLs You're right! it's as if they are celebrating it! Half way down the UK Customs & Declarations webpage the "Top insights in Numbers" are genuinely Jaw dropping and also carefully phrased. Most would have alarm bells beside stats like that. Not "sunlit uplands" clipart.
Top Insights in Numbers
Β£9 billion – Annual value of EU fruit and vegetable imports to Great Britain.
Β£200 million – Estimated yearly cost that the canned checks and fees would have imposed on importers.
31 January 2027 – New date when medium-risk produce checks could begin if no SPS agreement is reached.
80 per cent – Proportion of UK fruit imports sourced from continental Europe.
50 per cent – Share of UK vegetable imports that arrive from the EU.
9 per cent – Weight of fruit and vegetables in the official UK Consumer Prices Index basket.
0.5 days – Average shelf-life reduction caused by a single two-hour border delay in summer temperatures, according to FPC logistics data.

If Johnson does jump it proves yet again what a venal, self-centered individual he is. He'll only jump if there's something in it for him and he'll definitely have the sunlit uplands of the Reform leadership and another stint as PM in his sights.

Can't we just put oblique solar panels on legs with about 70cm ground clearance in mid-lowland fields with sheep grazing among them and remove the sheep from the uplands?

We went to Mr. Creed’s lodging, and there got a dish or two of sweetmeats, and I seeing a very neat leaden standish to carry papers, pen, and ink in when one travels I also got that of him.

We also have a stellar track record for renewables. The uplands areas of my neck of the (holiday and weekends) woods in the Rhins of Galloway is heaving with windfarms, and I love them! Lots of farmers also installing solar farms on spare fields too.

🚨 Most land within national parks is privately owned and, particularly in the uplands, used for grazing by farm animals. In #Dartmoor, just 7.5% of land is publicly owned, conservation seen as secondary to economic interests: "the place is bleached, it’s a dead zone and I know how rich it could be".

National deserts... 'Conceived of 75 years ago, there are 15 national parks across the UK, designed so that every citizen could immerse themselves in nature and beautiful landscapes. But experts say many of them are actually deserts for biodiversity.' www.theguardian.com/environment/...
