Yeah, filler used to be literal fanfictions Anime writers made up to fill for time while the Manga released. It was noncanon and usually bad. Nowadays, people call any episode without a fight scene "filler," anything with depth or nuance. The term "bottle episode" has been similarly mangled.
Witch Hat Atelier became my favorite anime of the spring season so far. I love how magic is drawn with ink instead of casted by regular means. I think that's very cool!
While I was on vacation I did try to keep up with anime when I had energy for it and I was pretty amazed that Star Detective Precure has a twist where the villains sincerely think they're doing the right thing for the world (but Usonoir is also in it for himself) and they see the Precure as villains
Their argument was based on the argument that since anybody could get a job writing for anime news outlets the reviewers were just part of fandom and should be treated like user generated content and that apparently the director had once had in his twitter bio that he didn't like GL stories... LOL
when it would make much more sense to look at broader trends of politics among anime creators.
I have yet to be shown anything that would set Fukui apart from the crowd on this front.
Catholic aesthetics are so cool I love it when they use them in anime for no reason. The best one is where they have repurposed the entire Catholic church as a demon fighting operation that doesn't seem to care about Jesus whatsoever
