One thing that AI is good for with programming, and I'm going to advocate for this, is what Copilot does in Visual Studio. I refactored and put an initializing PHP file into a folder to clean up the organization, then I asked VSC to fix all files requiring it to point to the correct folder.

I'm learning to program. I was able to turn off the AI stuff visual studio code was offering, and tbh I can transition to a different ide depending on the project. No ai, just utilizing some beginner projects, and a physical book that's been haunting me since I first put it on a wishlist.

* UPDATE * Liking #JetBrain #Rider a lot. Seems to get out of the way more than Visual Studio. Much prefer the look / feel to Rider (2025.3.3) than VS 2026. Fully embraced it at work too. We've got the big posh version there but I think they're the same feature wise? Just the licence restrictions.

One example of AI-in-software I think is useful though would be AI as an expanded auto-complete in Visual Studio or similar IDEs. And this I think gets at how very mediocre-useful AI is: it is not worth my time composing a prompt in an external AI chatbot, but autocomplete is mildly useful

My problem is so many code LLM users know what Visual Studio Code is, but never learned about Visual Studio. Or anything that can make software development more than code monkey go type type. So when an LLM can refactor a function with 90% success in only 7 minutes, it's just magic.

Installed Visual Studio 2026 on one PC. This reminded me that having 2 VSs means there`s a squabble for the filetypes of .SLN etc. so really it`s a race to upgrade as fast as possible and then toast the old version. I decided that`s a race for another day. I already fear moving to SFML 3.0.0.

Took me around 2-3 weeks to fall in love with it after being welded to Visual Studio since 1997. There's a free 30 day trial. Just open your solution and give it a whirl. Once Epic get sick of me I'm definitely buying a license for myself. I might sometime soon anyway. Amazing it's just one lad.

Linking the Game Engine to Visual Studio Forms is, in General, a Brutal Cool thing to do because the VS things can complement things that the Game Engine cannot do in a Simple and Credible Way and even if it could it would be on one same program, not many Apps.
