In 1885, the Board of the Home, including folks like McQuesten and Sanford, expanded the mission to include a day nursery and care for homeless and abandoned infants. It became The Home of the Friendless and the Infants' Home. Pictures of flowers were painted on beds to distinguish ownership.

170 Caroline Street South was never a private residence. The lot was purchased in 1872 and built on in 1873 by a philanthropic group to house "delinquent, homeless women, released from jail, to whom no other door was open". At the time, it was called The Home of the Friendless.

I'm not sure where you are.
You talked about the US economy, so I talked about US homelessness.
There are some places that do harass people living in cars, with parking restrictions, etc.
But punishing people for living w/out a home doesn't help them find a job and home.
