nope. common misconception. it existed but wasn't popular until MUCH later. he most likely used quarter-comma meantone or similar. it's the "well tempered" not the "equal tempered" clavier :)

The major is obvious; it's just the harmonic series, out of order — C,E,G (,C,E on guitar). But why does the 7th (really the minor 7th, B♭ added to C major) sound good?
It's actually there, the 7th harmonic, counting the fundamental as 1 (the number is coincidence). But it's a huge approximation...

til that there is notation for quarter tones??? meaning notes outside of pitches typically recognized, since music is organized by half tones/semitones. wack
that has to be extremely difficult to land accurately, since its such a small division you really have no room for even a couple hz off
