Finished last month's word and colour challenge "Brown and texture". I'm pleased with the result. I keep running my fingers across the mushroom gills. This month it's pink and delicate. #art #textile #sew #craft #quilt #reuse #recycle 🇳🇿🪡🧵🧶

Reminder for the 🧶🇳🇿 crowd that Maree Buscke runs Knit August Nights in Napier, and Alia Bland and third VFF cofounder Libby Jonson are knitting and crochet pattern designers. Crafting communities need to be places for solidarity and connection, not wellness grifting anti-democratic cons

As with 2025's local govt elections, Voices for Freedom is accelerating general election-related output - which is to say, anti-Labour/Green narratives (from subtle to strident), aimed at influencing the exercise of franchise through network-effects, which they are very good at crafting.

This month's challenge was Blue and Shadey. My design was influenced by pancake ice, that I encountered in the Ross Sea, Antarctica. Next month's challenge is yellow and nature. #art #fabric #reuse #recycle #quilt #sew 🇳🇿🪡🧵🧶
Rough pale blue fabric curved shapes with dark indigo shadowing around the edges. The shapes collide with each other, and have a bit of room around the edges.
Detail of the oval shape, small speckles of glitter sparkle in the light, reminding me of the frozen Ross Sea, in Antarctica.

This is so cute, and fun. The pin cushion fits in perfectly. Easy to take out, for when I need my safetypins in the holder. I've tried it out, and I can see this being really handy, as I am prone to knocking my pin cushion off my work space. 2/2 #quilt #sew #fabric #reuse #recycle #frog🇳🇿🪡🧵🧶
The pin cushion nestled in the soap holder. The suction cup eyes are at the back. There are several coloured pins stuck into the cushion.
The green frog holder stuck to the side of my sewing machine. The pin cushion is inside, and I have already tried it out. Really handy, as I am prone to knocking my pin cushion off the my work space.
The green frog holder, with the pin cushion removed, and safety pins inside the space instead. Such a handy place for these to be, while I am working on a project.
The naked pin cushion. Looks like a multi colourful egg. Easy to remove from the holder attached to the side of the sewing machine.

I saw this online used as a safety pin/clasp holder attached to a sewing machine. What a great idea! The frog "soap holder" arrived. I'm making a pin cushion to fit the space, so I can use it as a pin cushion for some projects, and a safety pin holder for other projects. #quilt #sew #craft 🇳🇿🪡🧶🧵
A green plastic soap holder with the top shaped like a frog face, with big beady eyes. It is attached to a wall using suction cups. A bar of pink soap is resting in the holder.

🧶🇳🇿 Isabelle Kraemer’s ‘caramel’ has been on my to-knit list for a decade. At least. Today, I can tick it off. Knitted in Rowan Felted Tweed DK (which is not really a DK at all, but that’s another conversation). And, yes, a lot of ends have yet to be darned in.
A striped hand-knit cardigan in a tweedy yarn is pinned into shape on foam play mats. The colours are dark blue-grey, pale blue (duck-eggish), marron, a blue-green, camel and a fresh bright green in a shade I think of as spruce or maybe rimu.

Recent make, Megan Nielsen Tania culottes in a linen print I've had in my stash for a while. I like the longer length version of these, and they have great pockets. #sewing #nzcraft 🇳🇿
