Yes, we’ve added the major global earthquake data sources to the app, so it’ll certainly cover any major global event, but small magnitude earthquakes are only in certain regions depending on local observatory contributions.

Magma at sufficiently low quantities *does* in fact count as wetting for dihedral purposes, yep yep!

How many scientists does it take to change a flat tire? This question and many others are being answered at SSA's #Optical #Seismology meeting in #Kona this week! (Photo credit: Giovanni Milione @sintela.bsky.social ) ⚒️

Stromatolites-thrombolites partly exposed by low water levels at Thetis Lake N of Perth (Aust). The lake is highly saline - white crusts on the tops is halite-gypsum. The microbes are probably a mix of cyanobacteria and brown algae. Remnant cemented mounds are exposed along the shoreline (right) ⚒️🧪🌊

Article tackles the megabias of the diminishing soft-body preservation in the fossil record: The explanation rests on the proposition, that it was caused by the proliferation of colagen enzyme diversity in bacteria and archaea. www.sciencedirect.com/sci…. 🧪⚒️ #Geology #Paleobio #EvoBio

Latest Temperature Check column on the reaction to the landmark climate decision in the high court. Not so much “net zero on steroids” as an attempt to cut the steroids driving the planet’s climate to ever deadlier extremes.

The emissions might occur elsewhere, but they generate global harm that scientists can now quantify

In a new #BSSA paper, scientists investigate the main sources of ground-motion variability within kinematic rupture simulations. ⚒️ buff.ly/DmEY0Lh
Study domain used for ground‐motion modeling under variable source scenarios, with 400 virtual receivers (triangles). The blue and red triangles denote the Norcia and Amatrice domains, respectively, and indicate the velocity model adopted at each receiver.
