My YES vote is *not* an endorsement of this deeply flawed CR. My YES vote is 💯 about refusing to shut our government down. I refuse to punish working families and plunge millions of Americans into chaos.   I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever vote to shut our government down.

The weeks of performative “resistance” from those in my party were limited to undignified antics. Voting to shut the government down will punish millions or risk a recession. I disagree with many points in the CR, but I will never vote to shut our government down.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk want a shutdown to destroy vital government services faster. It would be a disaster. And we have to alert everyone how much pain it would cause the American people. From my interview on @allinwithchris.bsky.social:

Trump, Musk, and DOGE would use the power of a shutdown to shift into overdrive. And the courts, one of our best places to fight these autocrats, could quickly run out of money. We can’t let this happen.

If we enter a shutdown, Congressional Republicans would weaponize their majorities to cherry-pick which parts of government to reopen.

🧵 There are a lot of misleading claims out there about the SAVE Act. Let me set the record straight: I voted for the SAVE Act for the simple reason that American elections are for Americans. Requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote is common sense.

It is time to look to the future. The challenges that face America are many and great. The Senate must respond with resolve, bipartisanship, and fidelity to the working and middle class of this country.

My statement on the funding deal to reopen government, protect federal employees, and vote to protect health care:

Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis For the millions who will lose coverage For people with cancer who won't get the care they need For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare We will keep fighting

Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE: End the roving patrols and racial profiling. Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police. Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.
