Technically a pest but I don’t have that many and they don’t eat that much, so I leave the snails alone. I’m rather fond of them. 🌱

Eggplant ‘Shooting Stars’. Beautiful but I’m never convinced about culinary value. I made parm, it was good but what else? What do you do with eggplant? 🌱

🌱Today’s garden walk. #bloomscrolling
A bright red mini rose in full bloom. Layers of lush petals piled up decadently.
A pair of pretty pink cone flowers in their spiky glory.
A Hunt’s bumblebee sniffs around a purple Veronica flower. His orange stripe, like a skirt across his thorax, stylishly contrasts with the hairy yellow and black sweater he wears to dinner. Sharp guest.

A fritillary of some kind feeds on my Red Whisker Clammyweed, Polanisia dodecandra, on a hot Kansas day. This is my first time planting clammyweed. It's an annual but I have the feeling I'll be seeing it for years to come. 🌱 #nativeplants #pollinators

🌱🕷️ An Argiope spider has taken up residence in the garden beneath my deck.
A closeup of a large black and yellow garden spider. Her torso is black in the center and yellow around the ovate edge. She has 2 long legs with white bands; the others are black.
The size of the spider relative to some leaves and the 4x4 post of my deck. Her zipped together web is clearly seen, a hallmark of the Argiope species.

I wanted to see how big my funny tomatillo dude would get, but I saw that it cracked today so I figured it was time to pick it. Yay! You made it so far, my dude!!! 🌱
Tomatillo that's been growing outside of its husk, now with a small crack along the bottom. Nooo

This was a very very very good tomatillo day 🥹🌱 Also I'm not sure how but one squash plant got destroyed near the base and everything was already dying off 😥 had to harvest the wee baby in the middle.
white basket filled with tomatoes, tomatillos, green beans. next to it: a large acorn/butternut-y squash. a tiny acorn/butternut-y squash. and a wee white eggplant.

Turned eggplant blessings into 5x 12oz bags of chopped roasted deliciousness frozen & ready to add to pasta sauces, stews, or quick dips. Still have 2 softball-sized beauties to do a deconstructed Eggplant Parmesan later this week. #gardening #KitchenGarden #GrowFood #NoSpray #organic-gardening 🌱
Three loaded trays of chopped eggplant slid into the oven filling all the racks and ready for roasting.
A stack of flat packed quart freezer bags of the finished products labeled and dated and ready for the freezer.

🌱Though similar in color, that is not Amaryllis belladonna - but Lycoris squamigera. Lycoris is the Asian counterpart of Nerine. Here are two distinct variants of L. chinensis, acquired from different sources - both in what is becoming my ever expanding 💰😅 hardy Lycoris collection.😎

An assassin bug chowing down on a false potato beetle larva that was eating eggplant leaves. This is why you don’t indiscriminately spray insecticides—predator insects are killed too and their numbers recover more slowly. 🌱 🦋

It's a Sea of Tomato Stakes. 🌱 (we use trimmed branches for a lot of it, we save the paid stuff for key uses like trellising, otherwise it'd be a fortune in bamboo and cages).
