🌱 Ich war empört, dass ich heute nachdem ich den Weihnachtskram weggeräumt habe nicht direkt frische Blumen und kleine Pflänzchen hinstellen kann. Ich will direkt Saatgut kaufen 🤪

For my gardening friends... a change of topic. It's a new year, and the first of the new winter #flowers are blooming on southern #VancouverIsland - Hellebores. 🌱🇨🇦
Pink and white Hellebores blooming on January 1 on southern Vancouver Island. Green bushes and a gravel path in the background.

Home from holiday family visits… swinging bird feeder with wrapped squirrel was my first sight from inside out… now waiting to see if I notice them attempting it again. 🌱 #squirrels #birdfeederthiefs

I was gifted this small poinsettia 3 years ago and have been keeping it as a houseplant. Repotted it once last summer, but otherwise, I haven't fertilized or anything. For the first time, it is reblooming! 🌱 🪴
Small poinsettia plant with a single bloom on one branch. Another couple of blooms forming on two other branches. Positioned next to south facing window.

Not the most thrilling time of year in the garden. It's more about shape than color in winter, though I will have some pink manzanita flowers soon. 🌱
A shot of a long garden bed. It's a lot of grey seed heads punctuated with low round silver shrubs and green seedlings
A garden bed with a purple toned loosely rounded shrub in the right corner and a few other small purple toned plants
A still very new garden bed of mostly mulch with a few small tight green shrubs
At the tip of a branch with leaves, covered in raindrops, a cluster of small pink bell shaped flowers.

🌱9a The frost cloths have, once again, come off of the plants. As one strip was taken off these 'Stargazer' amaryllis blooms were revealed.

🌱 We have a January 1st tradition of eating peas first luck and cabbage for money in the New Year. My peas are Mississippi pink eye peas frozen from the past summer's garden and the cabbage was just picked from my winter garden. I should bevok in 2026.

Many of the recipes I’d linked in this thread are already gone 😭 if there are Food52 recipes you want, go get them now and you might have to use the Wayback Machine to do it!!! 🍽️🌱

It looks like ATK is trying to buy them…which gives me a bit of hope? Idk. But go save what you can jic 🍽️

Happy New Year to all & my growing season has started. Delighted with the progress of my mushroom block. Seems my makeshift fruiting chamber is a success 🌱

They can be tricky, sometimes they're not as dead as you think though, if there's a whole unsquishy leaf left you can often get them to re-root. I've brought this back from 'mostly dead' a few times 🌱🌵

*Note: Allow plant to naturally go dormant in autumn, gradually reducing watering. Remove yellowing stems. Store tubers in a dry packing material (peat moss, vermiculite) in a dry place that is cool, but will not freeze in winter. Photo credits & permissions: Houston Satellite Branch of the ABS.🌱
