The entire POINT of the Oscars is that they are not an ad for this movie or that movie but for Movies as a Concept and the Movie Industry. This is why they don't show trailers for unreleased films at the Oscars; it's a back-patting exercise.

Why? Really, what is this purpose of this recut of an animated film, to live action, that is less than 10 years old? Disney's old "straight to video" versions of hit films continues with Iger's attempt to recapture his glory days. variety.com/2025/film/tr...

We also rewatchex Jordan Peele's US for Halloween and I liked it more this time. It's metaphor feels even more blunt, but it also is a story about the inadvertent effects we have on others in society, and some sad realities about the "impact" of pop-art. boxd.it/bKuRq9

#PutoHiloDePelisDeIván2025 104. This is Spinal Tap (1984), de Rob Reiner. Mockumentary sobre una falsa banda de rock/metal con gags buenísimos y canciones originales muy bien tocadas. A veces intenta darle demasiado peso a la trama y no se termina de explotar el lado cómico. 7/10. boxd.it/bJPQ2D

Over my lifetime I've probably seen Goodfellas the most, in recent years Taxi Driver or After Hours are probably my most rewatched. Happy birthday to my GOAT of GOATs, here's my total Marty filmography ranking #filmsky #🎥

I SAW THE TV GLOW is a terrifying warning about how being untrue to yourself can flush away your whole entire life. I'll leave the analysis of its trans-specific narratives to those more informed, but I loved this movie. boxd.it/bKuGw1

There was an Elaine May retrospective at the Harvard Film Archive a few years back that she attended. She was saying as she intro'd this film that there was a change at the top of the studio about the time Ishtar came out, and that the new head didn't want to promote so he...

It’s genuinely so cool to see Pow! get all of this Oscars’ buzz. Thank you to the amazing folks at @cartoonbrew.bsky.social for this interview and for their extremely kind words about the film. If you’re in Los Angeles, come to our FYC event with Courage and Tiger at The Autry on 11/19!
An image of an article form Cartoon Brew about the animated short film Pow! where they refer to the film as an Oscars contender and say a bunch of very kind words.

Same tbh While I’ve sort of become disillusioned with awards shows in general, at least some of them do have some gravitas (like the Oscars or BAFTAs), the Game Awards has just become an advertisement and the choices tend to be so predictable.

Nuremberg (Vanderbilt, 2025) Accelerated and embarrassingly bad history lesson that demands virtually nothing from its name cast, inviting audiences to enjoy the celebrity dress-up without having to strain too much. #filmsky
