Trump thinks he owns Greenland already; he thinks he's won in Iran; it's just a matter of the world catching up with those "facts" Elon thinks he owns the future and every time a TV bobblehead uncritically repeats his claims about space travel or robotics or whatever it reasserts that truth for him

Artificial Intelligence is greatest theft in the history of humanity. All the knowledge built and paid for by societies across the globe is used for free. The ideas from philosophers, music from composers, writing from journalists and authors. And they are steeling our water, electricity and space.

Nvidia and Google Launch Alliance to Turn AI Data Centers Into Grid Assets

Nvidia, Google and a startup called Emerald AI want AI data centers to start acting like grid citizens instead of nonstop power hogs, and on September 16 they launched an alliance betting that idea can unlock 100 gigawatts of capacity the US grid already has. The AI Energy Management Alliance, or AEMA, launched with three founding members and eighteen additional partners, including Anthropic, chipmaker Analog Devices, and utilities National Grid, Constellation, AES, RWE and NRG. The pitch is straightforward: let data centers throttle back their power draw when the grid is under stress, and in exchange, utilities fast-track the connections new AI facilities need. According to Nvidia's own blog post announcing the coalition, the US grid runs at roughly 50% average utilization, meaning huge amounts of existing capacity sit unused most of the time simply because it has to be reserved for rare peaks. Google put a number behind its commitment. The company pledged 1 gigawatt of demand it can reduce on request through agreements with utilities across the country, according to Axios's reporting on the launch. That's roughly the output of a large nuclear reactor, and it means Google is telling grid operators it will voluntarily cut that much...

Compliance automation startup Comp AI raises $34M to push into security

Compliance automation startup Comp AI today said it has raised $34 million in new funding to advance its software for preparing companies for security audits. Comp AI plans to spend the money on monitoring that keeps running long after an audit is signed off. The software reads a customer’s own systems and documents for organizational context, then drafts policies and risk registers from what it finds. Agents handle onboarding, gather evidence, watch controls and run vendor security assessments. Dub Technologies Inc. and OpenCode are among the more than 1,000 companies using it. The platform’s core is open source. SOC 2 and ISO 27001 are among the frameworks it covers, and the project’s GitHub page positions Comp AI as an alternative to Vanta Inc. and Drata Inc. Vanta was valued at $4.15 billion in a $150 million round last year. “The first generation of compliance software proved this process could be automated. Agentic AI lets us go much further,” said Lewis Carhart, co-founder and chief executive of Comp AI. “Security software shouldn’t just track the work. It should understand the business, perform the work, and act as risk changes.” Real-time monitoring and control validation come next. The company also wants its...
