This image captures visitors overlooking the expansive landscape of the Grand Canyon National Park.
The view shown is likely from Mather Point on the South Rim, a popular spot for panoramic canyon vistas.
Visitors are gathered behind a safety railing to view the deep gorges and layered rock formations.
The Grand Canyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its immense size and unique geological features.
Visitors can explore the area via hiking trails like the Trail of Time, or take tours from nearby cities.

This looks like a better part than the previous flying part of the game. You take a helicopter and you use the Earth powers to drop boulders in front of oil tankers trying to pollute the national park.

Yes, the start was also the finish. It was a hiking event. Part of the proceeds went to the national park where we hiked. I normally walk in part of that, but this one got me to places I hadn't been to yet. This was the view from the start, that was where we were heading.

(Cont...) docs offices are really dropping the ball on that to the point of me having to switch NPs in the practice because the one I was seeing isn't doing home visits anymore in my area (and that's why I went with them). Still concerned, but not life-threateningly or acutely so. (Cont...)

The image is an educational infographic from the National Park Service with a timeline layout, historical photos, and illustrations on a colorful background. It highlights the development of the transcontinental railroad, featuring key dates and events from 1826 to 1890, with accompanying text and images.

Go West!

Before the transcontinental railroad, it took four to six months to cross the United States. People had to either travel by ship around South America or travel by wagon across the country. The transcontinental railroad made it possible for people, as well as fruits and vegetables, clothing, and other goods, to move at much faster speeds.

1862
Pacific Railroad Act: Abraham Lincoln and Congress approve construction of the transcontinental railroad.

1869
East to West: Construction on the transcontinental railroad is completed connecting the east and west coasts.

Visit a Park:
1890
People take vacations by train to see new national parks in the west, such as Yosemite.

1826
First American Railroad:
A horse-drawn railroad opens in Massachusetts.

1841
Oregon Trail: Wagons begin taking people west in large numbers.

1847
Mormon Pioneers: To escape religious discrimination, Mormons travel by wagon to Utah’s Great Salt Lake Valley and call it home.

1848
Gold Rush! Many people travel by wagon to California when gold is discovered there.

1850
Indian Wars Begin: As the government takes land away from Native Americans and moves them onto reservations, wars break out and continue into the 1890s.

1861
Tapping Out the Code: The transcontinental telegraph line uses Morse code to send messages between the east and west coasts.

Civil War Begins: Northern states and southern states fight over slavery. This slows progress on the railroad. The war ends in 1865.

Show What You Know

Many events happened before the transcontinental railroad was built.

1. Brigham Young and the first Mormon settlers arrived in _____________.

2. _____________ was discovered in California in 1848.

3. The _____________ were conflicts between tribes and the government as the government took tribal lands and moved Native Americans to reservations.

4. Beginning in 1861, northern and southern states fought over slavery during the _____________.

For some reason, derm appears to be a specialty that is poorly covered around here. There are PAs and NPs covering most of the appointments - if you need the actual MD, the wait is staggering.

I hope this is not a cheat. I am going to place my #RoadTrip and #MickPic dedicated stuff over there on Mick Pic @mickpic.bsky.social. My non #MrCalvin posts will be there, photography & stories by me unless noted. Under Mick Pic #MickTrip Road Trips #PNW #NationalParks or wherever I may wander.

The theme for this week's #BlueSkyArtShow is #Edge. Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park, Washington. A little snowperson sitting at the edge silently wonders, "Am I made of the mountain, or is the mountain made of me?" #MickPic #MickTrip #RoadTrips #PNW #WashingtonState #NationalParks

This image shows a winter view of Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park, Washington.

The scene features the snow-covered Olympic Mountain Range under a clear blue sky.
It is a popular destination for winter recreation, including skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.
Visitors driving to the ridge are often required to carry tire chains, even in four-wheel-drive vehicles.
The area is known for powerful winds, with gusts exceeding 75 miles per hour.
A little snowperson sitting at the edge of it all has no comment.
