I just spotted that this diagram is labelled "Overall working of the framework presented as an infographic." So presumably the whole framework is absolute bollocks. At least there's an editor's note on it now, I guess??
Screenshot from the article.

Editor’s Note: Readers are alerted that the contents of this paper are subject to criticisms that are being considered by editors. A further editorial response will follow the resolution of these issues.

It also mentions the author is Shimei Jiang, it was published in Scientific Reports volume 15, Article number: 40850 (2025) and it says "638 Accesses 925 Altmetric".

Basically, if your Altmetric score is higher than your Accesses, you just got ratioed.

But what an altmetric score 😱 “This article is in the 99th percentile (ranked 100th) of the 196,006 tracked articles of a similar age in all journals and the 99th percentile (ranked 2nd) of the 2,268 tracked articles of a similar age in Scientific Reports”

This paper with this unbelievable #AI generated yet peer-reviewed Figure 1, is still available online (pending editiorial response). It has now a whopping 932 altmetric score, with - quite interestingly - only 18 posts on X (<93k followers), while on Bluesky there are 1453 posts (<3.4M followers).

Should you worry when your articles altmetric online attention is much greater than the article access?
Altmetric article access 630. Online attention 900.

To be fair, the fact that my paper has a higher Altmetric than Marx's Das Kapital might be taken to imply that the limitations in the methodology are to my paper's benefit... ;)

Maybe they do that just to get a lot of social media coverage… drive up the Altmetrics score?

And let me add: What Altmetric is doing is great. I never shaded Altmetric. I could also have said: There is impact for the paper in question beyond the coverage of explicit citation of the paper identifier.

Just to add to the official account reply: it's a sadly surprisingly little known fact that Altmetric doesn't discriminate based on language. We look for identifiers, which are happily language neutral!

My suggestion is based on anecdotal evidence from a while back, which is why I said "may be". Altmetric is great in algorithmic indexing. But a pro human bibliographer with a flexible mind may still find and confirm more relevant sources. I understand that adopting their strategies may be a hard.

Today we give thanks for non-traditional research outputs (NTROs) & the repositories where they're found. 🙌 Let's celebrate by revisiting the Altmetric Top 25 compiled by our VP of Research Futures, Simon Porter. Why are these #NTROs capturing public attention? 🔗 ow.ly/QRnP50XyFL6

Interestingly, according to Altmetric, it has got an overall positive repsonse over in the 'other place' despite the bots and anti-vax crowd. The only strong negative even admitted he hadn't read it 🤪 Still glad I stopped visiting some time ago and only recently went in to delete my account.

Alternative metrics: If not the SAT, then what? What other tools can reliably capture foundational math competencies before students hit early STEM sequences? And do those tools have better distributional properties? Clearly, high school GPAs aren’t cutting it in the UCSD case.

It is worthwhile to actually check: Altmetric is not really that good in picking up foreign press items in all countries. So your article may even be more popular!

Pretty wild: I just learned that, in terms of Altmetric, this paper became the most impactful Political Science article of the past five years, and the 4th most impactful EVER. 😳 Altmetric is... well, Altmetric. But still, kind of surreal.

Misinformation isn't random - it's strategic. 🧵 In the first cross-national comparative study, we examine 32M tweets from politicians. We find that misinformation is not a general condition: it is driven by populist radical right parties. with @julianachueri.bsky.social doi.org/10.1177/1940...
