I know BlackSky exists and *had* to be created because Bluesky remains overwhelmingly white, with seemingly no concrete plans to diversify. Yes, non-Black Bluesky users are despairing over VRA. My point was that Black people do not have the numbers here like they do on other platforms.

Cool property of atproto that isn't talked about is how CIDs make mirroring free.
1 user publishes 1 record, that takes ~1kb in the blockstore
1 user publishes 100 records, that takes ~100kb

Outreach outside of this tiny bubble is good. Pulling only from the audience on Bluesky limits the reach of ATproto and is bad for the atmosphere. I personally don't do it but I see why others do and the validity in it.
Other successful ATproto app Skylight got success by doing outreach on TikTok.

I know personally I think what I see a lot in those threads with folks outside of atproto (or sometimes inside) is the catastrophic “what if Bluesky turns off all relays and the plc tomorrow, that leaves my app up creek without a paddle”.
And that’s not really the case anymore.

my dad is a small time local real-estate agent and it sounds like they’re getting absolutely dummied by Zillow et al on SEO, who basically have agents bid to be the person who picks up the phone when someone finds a property they want to buy or rent

I ended up going into a bit more detail about "atproto apps making a credible exit in a catastrophic scenario" in a reply earlier today.
The context of "what I see" is when developers talk about their concerns about building on atproto since on paper it looks like it all depends on Bluesky PBC
