Despite being a comic book legend the same age as my dad, Gerry Conway was a dear friend. We met because of Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows. I put together an RPG gaming group for him in 2019. We had our last game day in March. I told him we'd keep coming until he kicked us out...

So very sorry to hear that Gerry’s gone. He was a ridiculously prolific writer and, as I found out in more recent years, a very nice guy. RIP, sir.

Sad to hear of the passing of Gerry Conway, one of the best comic book writers ever, and, more importantly a kind man and good friend I greatly admired. He wrote every major superhero character, and wrote them well. RIP to a true legend.

He did. We had several email discussions over the past few weeks. He was lovely and gracious. This hurts bad. He was a favorite writer and I had TWO tributes to him in comics in the past couple months, the crossover and a villain in UXM, both were to show my appreciation for his endless creativity.

I think Gerry Conway wrote, at one time or another, all the major Marvel series but X-MEN, and all the major DC series but TITANS. And most of the minor ones, as well.

This was supposed to happen when they did the big DC/Marvel universe crossover book. It was supposed to be Hawkman and She-Hulk swamp universes for one year. That was what the writers pitched. My understanding is that it didn't make it very far up the lawyer ladder, especially with the word 'Hulk.'

This is true, BUT ALSO: Reading comics is an overlapping but distinct skill from reading prose. Comics aren't just a gateway to "real" reading; they're a complex narrative form in and of themselves.
